We primarily think of Venus as the planet of love and romance. But Venus is so much more than that. The sign and house placement of our Venus reveals what we need in order to feel connected to another, in both partnership and in friendship. Beyond that, Venus as ruler of Taurus and the 2nd House of Finances & Resources is about what makes us feel materially secure.

Venus Retrogrades are times when we are invited to reevaluate our values in relationships, as well as in relation to our finances. It is a time to check in with our partnerships and friendships to make sure that the balance is right. Are we getting our needs met? But also, are we being forgiving enough? In regards to money, Venus Retrograde is a good time to make sure that our financial decisions are in alignment with our true values.

Venus Retrograde in Aries (March 1st - March 27th)

Venus begins its retrograde in fiery Aries, the sign of action, passion, and yes, anger. Venus Retrograde in Aries offers us a chance to reconnect with what we are truly passionate about. If you’re currently in a relationship, it will be time to check in with yourself and your partner about the current level of connection. Are you feeling the spark? In long term partnerships, it is common for passion to ebb and flow, and for things to get comfortable over time. If you’re longing for more passion, this is a good time to brainstorm with your partner. What would it take for you to rekindle the spark?

If you’re not currently in a partnership, new connections can arise at this time to offer opportunities to explore your passionate side. Relationships from the past can also resurface. While Venus is in Aries, old partners or friends can help us to uncover anger that we thought we had worked through. While it may not be a pleasant process, we will be the better for confronting the lingering resentments we may have toward others. Awareness of what we are ready to release allows us to transition gracefully into Venus Retrograde in Pisces.

Venus Retrograde in Pisces (March 27th - April 12th)

Venus Retrograde Pisces is about finding forgiveness, especially for those who wronged us in the past. I have personally struggled with forgiveness, afraid that if I truly forget what someone did in the past, that then I will have trouble setting boundaries with that person in the present. I have often held on to resentments for years as a protective strategy, thinking that as long as I kept a tally of the wrongs done, then I would not to let myself get hurt again.

But it doesn’t work that way. The cliché holds true: in holding on to past wrongs, we hurt ourselves more than anyone else. During Venus Retrograde in Pisces, we have an opportunity to do the deeper work of surrendering our hurts. It is cleansing to let go of the past. Let the waters of Pisces carry away old resentments you’ve been holding. Trust that in surrendering, you can be more present for your closest relationships moving forward.

Pisces energy is also about compassion, both for others and for ourselves. During this retrograde period, the voice of our inner critic may get louder so that we notice what needs to be healed. It’s time to cultivate acceptance and love for ourselves, and that love flows into healing our friendships and partnerships.
