The Transiting Nodes in Pisces and Virgo
On January 28th, 2025*, the lunar nodes enter the polarity of Pisces and Virgo, marking a significant shift in our collective journey. They will remain there until August 18, 2026. After a year and a half with the nodes in Aries and Libra, we're invited to explore new depths of emotional awareness and surrender as we embrace the lessons of Pisces and Virgo.
(If you’d like to know more about the technical aspects of the nodes, please see the section “Understanding the Nodes” at bottom.)
The transiting north and south Nodes represent a collective karmic axis, highlighting areas of growth and release for society. The north node signifies the direction we're collectively encouraged to move towards in order to embrace new experiences and develop specific qualities. The south node, on the other hand, represents ingrained patterns and outdated behaviors that we're being challenged to let go of in order to evolve.
Pisces is about connection to our emotions and intuition. It is also about opening up to the world beyond the five senses. But we must do our part and make space in our lives to connect. If we take the time to be still and listen, we can receive messages from our dreams or psychic awareness.
Pisces is also a sign of compassion. We will be learning during this transit how to find more empathy for others. Wherever the north node is, this is our biggest collective challenge.
Virgo is a sign of service. Virgo energy wants to figure out the problem—then fix it. When Virgo is operating in its strength, it can be of service to others in a practical, tangible way.
But with the south node in Virgo, the challenging aspects of the sign are highlighted. We will be shown where our perfectionism has become paralyzing, and where the need for control has blocked the flow of joy in our lives. We might also see where our desire to be of service has been co-opted or misdirected. We will need to tap into our intuition and our higher guidance to recognize which endeavors are truly worth our time and energy.
Here are some questions for reflection:
North Node in Pisces: Compassion for Self and Others
What areas of my life need more gentleness and understanding?
How can I practice empathy and understanding towards those who are different from me?
Where can I offer forgiveness and kindness, even when it's difficult?
South Node in Virgo: Surrender and Flow
Where am I clinging to control or perfectionism?
How can I learn to trust the process and let go of the need for everything to be "just right"?
How can I cultivate a deeper sense of faith and trust in the universe?
I have my natal nodes in the same position as the current transiting nodes: north node in Pisces, south node in Virgo. It has been a lifelong journey of learning to release my perfectionism and my need for control.
The medicine is in the Piscean ideal of self-love, which begets love for others. The path to the Pisces north node is truly knowing that I am deserving of love and acceptance . . . and so is everyone else. The transiting nodes in Pisces and Virgo will bring these lessons to the surface for all of us.
Here is a Pisces north node mantras that has always helped me:
Everything is unfolding as it should.
I got this affirmation from Jan Spiller’s book on the nodes, Astrology for the Soul, many years ago. It has always stayed with me, as it gets to the heart of the Pisces north node lesson. It’s much easier to say than to believe. For me, this short phrase represents the learning curve of a lifetime.
Where might the belief that “Everything is unfolding as it should” help you in your life?
One way you can gain more understanding as to how the transiting nodes will be affecting your individual chart is by looking at what houses the nodes are falling in and what planets they might be coming into contact with as they transit these signs.

Understanding the Nodes
Retrograde Motion: The nodes always move retrograde, appearing to move backwards through the zodiac.
18.5-Year Cycle: The nodes complete a full cycle in approximately 18.5 years, spending about 1.5 years in each polarity.
Eclipses: Eclipses occur within the signs the nodes are transiting, shaping the themes and experiences of those periods.
Nodal Returns: When the nodes return to their natal positions, it marks a significant turning point in one's life.
*There are two ways to calculate the nodes: True Nodes and Mean Nodes. On January 11, the “True Nodes” entered Pisces/Virgo (which is why you may have already seen articles about this online). I use the Mean Nodes. The Mean Nodes occupy Pisces and Virgo according to my dates in the first paragraph. See Steven Forrest’s article on the topic below for more information.
