Eclipses in Taurus and Scorpio 2022
Eclipses occur in pairs, two weeks apart, about every six months. They move through each polarity of signs over the course of about 2 years. Throughout this period, we are invited to discover where we are in the balance between the shadow and light expressions of the two signs in the polarity.
The current eclipses are lighting up the Taurus/Scorpio polarity. Taurus is about stability, security, and being grounded. Scorpio is about intimacy (with ourselves and others), authenticity, and passion.
The light and the shadow of both signs will be available during this period. The work is to become aware of the Taurus and Scorpio traits within us. We can then examine how we are interacting with the qualities of both Taurus and Scorpio. How are they in balance, or out of balance, in our lives?
The first eclipse of this series was November 2021, and the final eclipse will be October 2023. The upcoming pair of eclipses are:
October 25th - New Moon / Solar Eclipse Scorpio 02°
November 8th - Full Moon / Lunar Eclipse Taurus 16°
In the Oct. 25th eclipse, The Sun and Moon make an exact conjunction to Venus in Scorpio. Venus is the relationship planet, so this puts a spotlight on the need to communicate our needs honestly in our most important relationships. It is possible to be ruthlessly honest, or honest to a fault. This would be the shadow expression of Scorpio. But we can balance this tendency by calling upon the positive traits of Taurus. Try to embody a calm and tender energy toward the other person, even as you communicate difficult truths. This is more likely to make your loved one more receptive, and therefore opens a space for the changes you are seeking in the relationship.
In the Nov. 8th eclipse, the Moon is conjunct Uranus, the planet that brings surprises and sudden changes. Meanwhile, the Sun in Scorpio remains in its conjunction to Venus. Mercury, planet of communication, is in Scorpio and joins in the conjunction to the Sun as well. If it sounds like there is a lot going on here, there is! The already intense energy of the Lunar Eclipse is enhanced by three planets joining up with the Sun and the Moon.
We can use Uranus’ energy to consciously change dysfunctional patterns. With Mercury involved, it is a good time to experiment with new ways of communicating with our loved ones. We all fall into rote patterns with our closest people. We assume that we know each other, so we can fall into a “relationship shorthand,” wherein we aren’t really asking questions anymore, nor are we listening. This eclipse is saying that it’s time to wake up, listen, and speak to our most cherished people as if they are new to us. In doing so, we can heal some of the resentments that occur in any long-term friendship or partnership.
Scorpio energy is about facing our fears in order to allow necessary change and transformation in our lives. With Venus in Scorpio next to the Sun, the Scorpio eclipse is giving us an opportunity to see what is holding us back in our closest connections, and what is ready to be healed.
Here are questions for reflection to prepare for the Scorpio eclipse of October 25th:
Without censoring myself, what are three basic needs I have in order to make a relationship fulfilling? (this can be applied to friendship or partnership)
Are any (or all) of these needs unmet in an important relationship? Which needs?
What is most scary to me about sharing these needs with my friend or partner?
What is one step I can take toward communicating the need(s)?
Taurus energy is connected to habits. Habits can be either good or bad, depending upon whether they help us to get where we want to go, or block us from doing so. The calling of the Taurus eclipse is to look at how holding on to stability can keep us stuck. We are given a gift at the Taurus eclipse of being able to see our entrenched patterns in overview.
Here are questions for the Taurus eclipse of November 8th:
What habits are currently holding me back from my aspirations? (List whatever comes to mind)
What is a fear that I am trying to quell by staying in those habits?
What is one daily habit that I feel ready to let go of?
What do I hope to achieve for my future self by letting go of this habit?
You can use these questions as journal prompts, for quiet reflection, or for discussion with a friend. Remember that the period of greatest influence of an eclipse season is about six weeks–two weeks before the first one, two weeks between, and two weeks after the second one. Nature is giving us a long enough time period to delve into these questions. The harvest of the inner work that you do during this time will reveal itself over the next six months, until the next eclipse season comes around.
